Dev Patel was once ashamed of his Indian heritage, says it wasn’t ‘cool’


British actor Dev Patel is set to make his directorial debut with Monkey Man, influenced by Indian mythology. In an interview on a leading television show, the actor confessed that he was once ashamed of his Indian roots and heritage because it wasn’t considered ‘cool’ in Greater London. He further mentioned that he did movies like Slumdog Millionaire and wants to triple down on his culture with his first directorial movie.

 Monkey Man is an action thriller film based in India, focusing on a young man seeking to avenge his mother’s death caused by corrupt leaders. He seeks the help of marginalised groups and transforms himself into Monkey Man, gaining confidence and identity in the process.

The story is inspired by the Hindu lord Hanuman, known for his strength and courage, and is filled with action sequences. The movie stars Sikandar Kher, Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Makarand Deshpande, Ashwini Kalsekar, among others. Dev Patel serves as both the lead actor and a producer alongside Hollywood filmmaker Jordan Peele.
