Renowned ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas, aged 72, reportedly passed away on Monday at Breach Candy Hospital after battling cancer. The ghazal maestro and playback singer’s demise has left a void in the music world.
His last rites are scheduled to be performed today in Worli, Mumbai. His daughter, Nayaab Udhas, shared the news on Instagram.
It read, “In loving memory of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas. With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of his demise on February 26, 2024, due to a prolonged illness. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, February 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. Venue: Hindu Crematorium. Worli (Mumbai) Landmark Opp. Four Seasons: Dr. E. Muses Rd. Worli. The Udhas Family.”
The industry mourns the loss of the legendary singer, with actors like John Abraham, Sunny Deol, Anupam Kher, Shilpa Shetty, and Sushmita Sen expressing their condolences.
Pankaj Udhas was known for his soulful ghazals and memorable playback songs in Hindi cinema, including hits like Chitthi Aayi Hain, Chandni Jaisa Rang Hai, Thodi Thodi Piya Karo,and Aaj Jinke Kareeb Hote Hai. His contributions to music will always be cherished and remembered.
